World Cheese Awards 2008 – The Results |
It was the closest ever finish in the 20-year history of the World Cheese Awards in Dublin on 29th September. Four cheeses tied for the World Champion crown after the 12 members of the Supreme Jury had finished tasting. In front of an audience of tense and excited cheese makers and visitors to the SHOP exhibition, each jury member was asked to write down the name of one of the four final cheeses they believed deserved to be the new World Champion.'I never quite realised just how exciting and complex cheese judging can be – not only did I have great fun but I also learnt a lot from various experts that appeared at the judging of the World Cheese Awards. Even better I will now have far more cheeses that my shop Windsor Larder will stock!' – Antony Worrall Thompson |

Guild launches consumer-facing Great Taste site |
Coinciding with the announcement of this year’s major winners, the Guild has launched a site dedicated to promoting winning companies to the consumer. Created in Flash, the site has simpler search facilities as well as descriptors, which will help the consumer understand the awards and therefore place more emphasis on looking for the logo in independent retailers. The site also includes the DeliFinder, a facility that lists Guild members by postcode, so that individuals can find their local deli, farm shop or food hall. Take a look. |
