Revived Browne's Chocolates to close again

By MICHAEL LANE

Devon chocolatier Browne’s is set to close less than a year after being bought out of administration by the entrepreneurs who revived Cornish brewery Sharp’s.

The Okehampton-based firm ceased production last week and has now let go six of the 10 staff that were re-hired when the business was saved last Spring.

When FFD contacted Browne’s Chocolates, the firm said it was closing although it would not be going into administration. It is understood that tough trading conditions are behind the closure.

Business partners Joe Keohane and Nick Baker rescued the business shortly after selling Sharp’s brewery to Molson Coors for £20m in January 2011.
