Dorset’s Furleigh Estate – tipped for success in Fine Food Digest’s Best Brands 2011 edition – has been named Winemaker of Year by the UK Vineyards Association.
The firm, which is run by winemaker Ian Edwards and Rebecca Hansford, also won four gold medals and two trophies for most outstanding sparkling wine and oaked wine, at the UKVA’s annual awards ceremony.
Lyme Regis cheesemonger Justin Tunstall and MasterChef winner Mat Follas both earmarked the firm as “one to watch” in last year’s Best Brands.
Furleigh Estate, based near Bridport, currently produces around 50,000 bottles of sparkling wine each year as well as a 10,000 bottles of still red, white and pink wine.
